To celebrate 25 years of the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, we hosted an extra special "Harry Potter" themed day at the shop. The event was free to attend and despite the rain, we had a fantastic turnout.
We had a fancy dress competition for the best witch or wizard with book tokens as prizes, a special range of Harry Potter books, toys and gifts to purchase, a sorting hat and invisibility cloak but the stars of the show were the real life Hedwig and friends, owls courtesy of our friends at Eyrie Photographics, who were simply amazing, working the whole event from morning till close to ensure the vast line of customers had their special time with the feathered friends.
It was an incredible day, and our best day of trading since we opened. We couldn't believe the queue of people outside the door and lining up Bridge Street!
As we consider ourselves an inclusive and safe space, 10% of all Harry Potter merchandise sales were donated to MermaidsUK, a charity that specialises in helping gender-diverse kids, young people and their families.
